Botanical illustration: Tree rhododendron by Charles d'Orbigny

This reproduction of a naturalist plate illustrates the tree rhododendron in all its complexity. The image details the clusters of pinkish flowers as well as the structure of the leaves and reproductive organs of the plant. This document comes from the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, a landmark work of French scientific documentation.

The original work, coordinated by Charles d'Orbigny between 1841 and 1849, is defined by its pursuit of absolute precision. The graphical style, characteristic of the 19th century, favors an analytical and didactic approach to botany. This plate perfectly illustrates the dialogue between art and science, where every stroke of engraving serves the understanding of the plant subject.

This antique illustration is particularly suited for enthusiasts of natural history and scientific decoration. It allows one to preserve a visual trace of the great botanical explorations of the era. Whether in a collection or on its own, this rhododendron reproduction constitutes an elegant testimony to the naturalist erudition of the Romantic era.
