This faithful reproduction of a botanical plate illustrates the Japanese quince with remarkable naturalist precision. Delicate pink flowers and fruit structure, characteristic of the species Chaenomeles japonica, can be observed. The composition highlights the finesse of the line and the chromatic balance proper to 19th-century scientific illustrations.
Taken from the famous Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle directed by Charles d'Orbigny between 1841 and 1849, this engraving testifies to the excellence of scientific popularization of the era. The botanical details are rendered with artistic rigor originally intended for teaching and encyclopedic documentation.
Ideal for botany enthusiasts and objects of curiosity, this plate brings a historical dimension to a collection of images. It lends itself perfectly to framing, allowing one to appreciate the richness of the naturalist iconographic heritage in a contemporary setting.
