This illustration reproduction highlights a series of exotic butterflies, notably the genera Delias harpalyce and Morpho dedimaja. The plate is distinguished by luminous tones of yellow, deep red, and blue, underlined by dark outlines that accentuate the relief of the specimens. The spatial arrangement of the insects creates a harmonious visual rhythm, typical of Séguy's pattern studies.
The original work, conceived by Émile-Allain Séguy around 1925, aimed to explore the ornamental potential of winged fauna. Moving away from the simple natural history plate, Séguy offers an artistic vision where color becomes the main subject. His work exerted a notable influence on Art Deco textile creation through its capacity to synthesize biological complexity.
Intended to be observed for its technical finesse, this reproduction integrates perfectly into a thematic collection on lepidoptera or early-century design. It offers a constant source of visual inspiration through the purity of its forms and the brilliance of its chromatic palette.
