This reproduction presents a detailed scientific plate of the plastrons of various chelonians, such as the scorpion mud turtle, the Caspian turtle, the loggerhead turtle, the Australian long-necked turtle, the map turtle, and the radiata toadhead turtle. It highlights the variety in the number and arrangement of bony scutes, offering a precise anatomical overview.

Coming from the monumental work "Erpétologie générale ou Histoire naturelle complète des reptiles" by André-Marie-Constant Duméril, published between 1834 and 1840, this illustration testifies to the systematic approach and graphical precision of 19th-century encyclopedias. It is part of the tradition of scientific documentation of wildlife.

This plate is a precious addition for lovers of natural history, herpetology, and scientific engravings. It can serve as an educational decorative piece, bringing a touch of erudition and history to an interior while celebrating the richness of the reptilian world.
