This scientific engraving reproduction presents a set of hemipteran insects, including the charming Lygaeus bug and the varied platycephalus. The plate is distinguished by detailed views of the legs and antennae, allowing precise observation of the morphological characteristics of these specimens. The contrasts of black, red, and yellow underline the rigor of this ancient entomological study.
The illustration is extracted from Charles d'Orbigny's Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, published in the 19th century. This work is recognized for having brought together the best artists and scholars of the era to constitute an exhaustive visual encyclopedia. The finesse of the engraving reflects the ambition of scientific precision that animated the naturalists of this historical period.
This naturalist plate is ideal for insect collectors or lovers of scientific art. Its documentary character makes it a prime piece for sober and erudite interior decoration. As a reproduction, it offers privileged access to the aesthetics of last century's cabinets of curiosities.
