This reproduction of a naturalist engraving features ascomycetes, a vast family of fungi with often surprising shapes. Taken from Ernst Haeckel's famous work Kunstformen der Natur, the plate displays cup-shaped structures and highly precise microscopic details. The black and white treatment accentuates the texture and morphological complexity of these fungal specimens.

Originally published between 1899 and 1904, these lithographs aimed to illustrate biological diversity according to the evolutionary theories of the time. Haeckel combined scientific rigor with a sense of artistic composition, offering an orderly vision of nature. His work on fungi and other organisms has durably marked global scientific iconography through its singular aesthetics.

This antique illustration constitutes a relevant choice for amateurs of mycology or classical naturalist art. It brings a documentary and authentic touch to a workspace or living area. Its practical value lies in the contemplation of the richness of the fungal kingdom, faithfully restored by this high-quality reproduction.
