This reproduction of a naturalist plate features various species of ctenobranch gastropods, such as the Murex. The composition focuses on the anatomical details of the shells, whose spines and spires are represented with grayish rigor contrasting against a deep black background.

Taken from the major work Kunstformen der Natur (1899-1904), this study of mollusks illustrates Ernst Haeckel's approach: showing the beauty of nature through its protective structures. The engraved style emphasizes the texture and architectural complexity of the gastropods, characteristic of the Victorian era.

Perfectly suited for malacological or scientific style decoration, this plate offers undeniable documentary value. It allows one to appreciate the morphological richness of marine mollusks, transforming a biological study into a visual collector's piece.
