Ernst Haeckel Discoid Radiolarians Plate

This reproduction of a 19th-century scientific plate presents a series of discoid radiolarians with radiant shapes. Taken from Ernst Haeckel’s collection Kunstformen der Natur, the illustration depicts star-shaped siliceous skeletons with exceptional finesse. Ochre and grey tones highlight the symmetry and geometric complexity of these marine microorganisms.

The original work testifies to Ernst Haeckel’s genius for microscopic observation and the artistic shaping of living things. At the turn of the 20th century, these images not only served science but also defined a new aesthetic standard. The circular motifs and diverging arms of these radiolarians were a major source of inspiration for artists of the era, notably in ornamental design.

This antique illustration is a choice document for collectors of naturalistic engravings and marine biology enthusiasts. Its both technical and artistic character allows for elegant interior decoration while celebrating the history of science. It invites the discovery of hidden structures of nature through a historical lens.
