Exotic butterfly plate: Peridromia amphinome by d'Orbigny

This reproduction of a naturalist plate illustrates three vibrantly colored butterflies, including the Peridromia amphinome and the Doris longwing. The contrasts between bright orange, deep black, and touches of yellow create a striking chromatic study. Each specimen is depicted with special attention paid to the symmetry of the wing patterns and the wing texture.

Taken from the prestigious Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, directed by Charles d'Orbigny in the 19th century, this engraving is a witness to the golden age of French scientific illustration. It illustrates the era's desire to document exotic species with both aesthetic and biological precision. The quality of the line testifies to the excellence of the engraving workshops mobilized for this encyclopedic work.

This antique illustration is particularly suited for insect enthusiasts and collectors of natural history objects. It lends itself admirably to a framed presentation in an interior seeking a scientific and elegant atmosphere. This reproduction pays tribute to the documentary and artistic know-how of the French naturalist school of the past century.
