Fish Plate - Ancient Naturalist Larousse 1910 Illustration

This reproduction of a naturalist plate comes from the 1910 edition of the Larousse Encyclopedia. It presents a rigorous morphological study of a wide variety of marine and freshwater fish, such as herring, trout, sturgeon, or tuna. The scientific drawing highlights a precise hierarchy of anatomical elements, offering an overview of the aquatic world as understood in the early 20th century.

The original engraving work, faithfully reproduced here, testifies to the excellence of the illustrators at Éditions Larousse. The plate favors a didactic approach where the finesse of the line and the clarity of the composition served the encyclopedic ambition of scientific popularization. The sober aesthetic, marked by shades of gray, brown, and blue, reflects the spirit of major naturalist publications of the Belle Époque.

Intended for enthusiasts of ichthyology and ancient engravings, this illustration integrates perfectly into a classical or contemporary decorative environment. Its documentary value makes it a privileged object of observation to enrich a thematic collection or adorn the walls of a cabinet of curiosities with authenticity and elegance.
