David Roberts documented these historical quarries from which came the sandstones necessary for the construction of Egypt's greatest temples. This 1838 illustration combines topographical precision with a sense of composition, capturing the majestic atmosphere of this strategic crossing point. The work on shadows and reflections testifies to the author's encyclopedic intention during his journey in Nubia.
