This reproduction of a 19th-century scientific plate focuses on the heads of horned vipers. It illustrates several species, including the nose-horned viper, the six-horned viper, the Egyptian cerastes, the lophophrys cerastes, and the Persian cerastes, with precise anatomical details.

Taken from the encyclopedic work "Erpétologie générale ou Histoire naturelle complète des reptiles" by André-Marie-Constant Duméril (1834-1840), this engraving is part of the classification of solenoglyphs, family of vipers. It testifies to the detailed study of venomous snakes and their distinctive characteristics.

This reproduction is particularly relevant for herpetologists, zoology students, and collectors of antique scientific illustrations. It offers a fascinating glimpse into viper morphology and the rigor of 19th-century encyclopedic works.
