This print, originating from the works of Kōno Bairei, is reproduced here with great fidelity. It depicts a woven fish trap, or 'jakago', whose sinuous shape evokes that of a snake. The object is placed in a suggested aquatic environment, while delicate leaves and flowers adorn the structure, creating a contrast between the utilitarian object and nature.
The work is characteristic of Kōno Bairei's style, who excels in representing elements of everyday Japanese life with quasi-scientific precision. These bamboo traps filled with stones were traditionally used to protect riverbanks. The artist makes them here a subject of aesthetic study, highlighting the beauty of functional forms.
This reproduction will interest enthusiasts of Japanese culture and lovers of technical illustrations with vintage charm. In decoration, it brings a note of originality and sobriety, testifying to ancestral know-how and a unique artistic vision.
