Visual analysis of the work reveals a documentary scene: an elderly man, sitting among bundles of wood, calmly smoking a pipe. The artist paid particular attention to the facial expression and posture, giving the character an authentic and dignified presence.

Created by Kōno Bairei (1844-1895), this plate illustrates the artist's interest not only in flora and fauna, but also in the human figures of Japanese rural life. This work bears witness to traditional Japan during the Meiji period, a time of great changes. The style is both precise and sensitive, capturing a simple moment of life with great sobriety.

This print is aimed at lovers of Japanese art, portrait collectors, and those interested in Japan's social history. As a decorative element, it brings a touch of character and humanity, inviting contemplation of a peaceful scene of life.
