This reproduction of a naturalist plate represents a branch of Red Currant (Ribes rubrum), laden with clusters of translucent fruit. The composition is animated by the presence of a butterfly in flight, adding a dynamic dimension to the static botanical study of leaves and berries.

Produced by Pierre-Joseph Redouté for his work "Choix des plus belles fleurs" in 1827, this illustration testifies to the author's encyclopedic desire. The treatment of reflections on the currants and the precision of the entomological drawing illustrate the multidisciplinary nature of 19th-century natural sciences.

This iconographic piece is perfectly suited for a collection of thematic reproductions on flora and fauna. It invites the contemplation of European biodiversity through the eyes of a master illustrator, finding its place in any space valuing scientific heritage.
