Illustration of Stylized Butterflies in Flight by Kamisaka Sekka

This reproduction displays a group of stylized butterflies captured in mid-flight, arranged rhythmically on a beige support. The insects are represented with shades of yellow and orange, accompanied by traditional Japanese calligraphies. The composition highlights the fluidity of movement and the harmony of simplified shapes, characteristic of the style of Kamisaka Sekka.

Taken from the 1903 work Chō senshu, this plate illustrates the influence of the Rimpa movement on the art of decorative printing. The artist reinterprets natural subjects through elegant geometrization and sober blocks of color. This approach aimed to modernize the classical Japanese heritage to adapt it to the supports of modern early-century publishing.

Intended for collectors of Japanese iconography and graphic design enthusiasts, this plate constitutes a sober decorative element. It lends itself to the observation of layout and the balance between voids and solids, specific to the Nipponian aesthetic. This reproduction allows the rediscovery of a naturalist motif treated with great formal rigor.
