Illustration of the Hyperian Fountain at Pherae, after Edward Dodwell

This reproduction highlights the Hyperian Fountain at Pherae, a site of great historical and mythological importance. Edward Dodwell's composition captures a peaceful scene: a small lake with crystal-clear waters, surrounded by lush vegetation where plane trees and cypresses mingle. In the distance, the white minarets of an Ottoman village recall the context of the period, creating a visual dialogue between the evoked Greek antiquity and the reality of the early 19th century.

Taken from the work Views in Greece, this engraving is an excellent example of Dodwell's documentary and artistic approach. Mentioned by Homer, the fountain is depicted here not as a mere ruin, but as a living place, at the heart of a landscape shaped by centuries of history. The illustration is an ethnographic as well as an archaeological testimony.

This plate is aimed at lovers of Greek mythology, Thessalian history, and travel art. It is a work that brings a touch of serenity and historical depth to an interior decoration, perfect for a library or reading space.
