This reproduction depicts the vestiges of the Temple of Tafa, located on the left bank of the Nile. The scene shows a stone structure with sober lines, surrounded by rubble and sparse vegetation, testifying to the abandonment of the site over the centuries. The view focuses on one of the two small edifices of the locality, with its columns with lotiform capitals typical of the late period.
The original drawing was executed by David Roberts during his Nubian journey in 1838. The artist noted traces of the Christian reuse of the temple, notably through the presence of inscriptions and wall paintings that are now almost gone. This plate thus constitutes a precious visual archive of an archaeological site marked by Roman and Byzantine influences.
