Illustration of the Temple of Wadi es-Seboua in Nubia - David Roberts

This reproduction features the Temple of Wadi es-Seboua in Nubia, a monumental structure partially buried under the sands. The plate by David Roberts details the massive columns, the statues of Osiris, and the beginning of the avenue of sphinxes. The balanced composition between the white of the structures, the blue of the sky, and the ochre of the desert highlights the site's architectural singularity along the Nile.

Initially published in 1838, this lithography documents the resistance of Nubian monuments against wind erosion and the advancing desert. Roberts accurately records the proportions of the temple, offering a rigorous overview of ancient construction techniques. The work reflects the European fascination with the isolated vestiges of the Nubian valley during the early archaeological expeditions.

This illustration is intended for collectors of documentary art and the history of civilizations. It allows for the study of the layout of Ramesside era temples and integrates harmoniously into a thematic collection on the exploration of North Africa. Its visual clarity encourages an in-depth observation of sculptural details.
