This reproduction of a Japanese print illustrates a coastal landscape in Hayama, in Iyo Province. The composition highlights traditional sailboats navigating near a rocky island under a twilight sky. Iconographic analysis reveals precise work on depth and balance between the dark masses of the rocks and the luminosity of the horizon.

Hasui Kawase, a central figure of the Shin-hanga movement, offers here a modernized vision of ukiyo-e. The graphic style favors chromatic gradients and careful atmospheric study, characteristic of early 20th-century Japanese publications. This plate is part of a documentary approach aiming to immortalize Japan's natural landscapes.

This illustration can be observed for its rendering quality of orange and bluish nuances. Intended for amateurs of oriental graphic art, it constitutes a rich visual document for a collection or sober decorative use, inviting contemplation of classic marine landscapes.
