Japanese Print: Kiyomizu Temple in Ueno by Hasui Kawase

This print reproduction depicts the Kiyomizu Temple located in Ueno, a major work by the artist Hasui Kawase. The illustration highlights the vibrant architecture of the temple, surrounded by lush vegetation and cherry blossoms. The dominant colors, blending the bright red of the structures and the delicate pink of the blossoms, create a striking contrast with the light blue sky. The precise linework emphasizes the finesse of the ornamental details of the sacred building.

Originating from the corpus of Hasui Kawase, this engraving follows the tradition of Japanese landscape while adopting Western perspectives. The original work aimed to immortalize the famous sites of Tokyo in an ideal spring atmosphere. The graphic style is distinguished by a search for balance between the strength of the colored flat areas and the lightness of the natural elements.

This decorative plate is ideal for those wishing to explore the aesthetics of the urban Japanese landscape. It is particularly suited for a thematic collection on temples or the cherry blossom season. Its contemplation invites a visual journey to the heart of Japan's architectural and cultural history.
