This reproduction of a 1933 print presents a panoramic view of Lake Toya located in Hokkaido. The illustration features a shore bordered by trees with golden and orange foliage, contrasting with the blue waters and the silhouette of a volcano in the background. The structured composition and the hierarchy of planes testify to a great mastery of atmospheric perspective.

Hasui Kawase, a central figure of the Shin-hanga movement, produced this work with documentary and artistic intent. The spirit of the era is reflected in the use of vivid pigments and special attention paid to natural lighting effects. This naturalistic plate fits into the tradition of early 20th-century Japanese topographical landscapes.

This antique illustration is aimed at collectors of Nipponian landscapes and lovers of historical graphic art. It can be integrated into a sober interior decoration or join a thematic series on the geography of Japan. Its utility value lies in the contemplation of a natural space immortalized by an expert gaze.
