This reproduction illustrates the Nihon Embankment and Yoshiwara, a documentary plate taken from the One Hundred Famous Views of Edo series. It depicts the path leading to the pleasure quarter, animated by travelers in palanquins under a discreet crescent moon.

Created in 1857 by Hiroshige, this work uses a palette of blues and grays to establish a twilight atmosphere. The famous Mikaeri yanagi weeping willow is visible at the end of the road, adding a melancholic and symbolic dimension to this study of urban life.

This antique illustration is particularly suitable for lovers of ukiyo-e prints with a social and architectural theme. It constitutes a precious visual testimony on the organization of Edo's districts, ideal for a collection of historical graphic art.
