Japanese Print of Fireflies (ほたる) by Kōno Bairei

This art reproduction highlights a delicate print by Kōno Bairei from his series of naturalist illustrations. The scene, with great sobriety, represents two fireflies perched on fine green grasses standing out against a beige background. The artist captures with remarkable precision the morphology of the insects, while suggesting their luminescence through subtle touches of color.

Kōno Bairei, a major artist of the Meiji era, was a master in the art of kachō-ga (paintings of birds and flowers), which extends to the entire natural world. His work is distinguished by almost scientific observation combined with poetic composition. This print of fireflies is a perfect example of his ability to capture the grace of an ephemeral moment in nature.

This work is aimed at lovers of Japanese art, collectors of animal prints, and all those sensitive to the poetry of small things. In decoration, this discreet and refined illustration brings a touch of tranquility and wonder, inviting observation of the subtle details of the living world.
