Japanese print of Ryugashima Island, Oga Peninsula by Hasui Kawase

This reproduction of a Japanese print highlights Ryugashima Island, located in the Oga Peninsula. The plate illustrates a remarkable coastal view where steep rock formations rise above a sea with turquoise reflections. The composition favors a striking frontal perspective, capturing the delicate balance between the mineral harshness of the landscape and the fluidity of the waters under a declining light.

Hasui Kawase, a central figure of the Shin-hanga movement in the 20th century, deploys here his mastery of atmosphere and landscape. The artistic intention relies on a meticulous observation of the chromatic nuances of twilight, mixing warm oranges and deep blues. This landscape study bears witness to a revival of Ukiyo-e, combining traditional woodblock printing techniques and modern sensitivity toward natural elements.

This ancient illustration is aimed at fans of Japanese art and coastal naturalist studies. It can be observed for its finesse of line or integrated into a collection of historical reproductions for decorative purposes. Its contemplation offers an immersion into Japan's coastal geography.
