This reproduction of a print by Hasui Kawase illustrates the Banyu River. The composition features a solitary boat on the water, overlooked by the majestic silhouette of Mount Fuji. This plate testifies to the chromatic mastery of the Shin-hanga movement, playing on contrasts of blue, green, and orange.

Emerging from the modern period of Ukiyo-e, this work by Kawase marks an artistic revival in Japan at the beginning of the 20th century. The artist favors a landscape approach where the serenity of the place is magnified by exemplary graphic precision and attention paid to aquatic reflections.

This antique illustration is intended for amateurs of Japanese art and landscape iconography. It integrates perfectly into a documentary collection or as a sober decorative element, inviting contemplation of classic Nipponese landscapes and their timeless dimension.
