This reproduction showcases Hiei Shrine under a thick blanket of snow, a classic winter scene of the Japanese artistic tradition. Two figures carrying traditional umbrellas bring a touch of bright color to the white silence of the temple.

Dated 1931, this engraving by Hasui Kawase explores the striking contrasts between architectural vermilion red and the purity of snow. It reflects the desire of the Shin-hanga movement to modernize ancestral landscape themes through the study of light.

This antique illustration is particularly suited for those seeking wall decoration imbued with serenity. It allows one to appreciate the finesse of the line and the hierarchy of elements in a masterful winter composition.
