This reproduction is based on a work by the Japanese artist Kōno Bairei. The composition features a wooden water wheel set on the bank of a peaceful river. A dense tree and reeds complete this naturalistic landscape, where the finesse of the line and the balance of the masses reflect a careful observation of nature.

Created during the Meiji era, this illustration is part of the work of Kōno Bairei (1844-1895), a master of Japanese naturalistic art. His plates, often intended for educational works or art collections, sought to capture scenes of nature and daily life with precision and sensitivity, in a style combining documentary rigor and visual poetry.

This print is aimed at lovers of Japanese art and enthusiasts of serene landscapes. It finds its place in an interior as an invitation to contemplation, offering a window into a rural and timeless Japan, and makes a choice piece for a collection dedicated to Meiji era art.
