This reproduction illustrates the Lacquer-Colored Gladiolus, identified under the name Gladiolus Laccatus in the 1827 collection Choix des plus belles fleurs. The plate highlights deep pink flowers contrasting with blue stamens and long slender leaves. The careful chromatic study pays tribute to the diversity of botanical species originating from the Cape of Good Hope.
Pierre-Joseph Redouté demonstrates his technical mastery here in rendering textures and color gradients. This engraving is part of a prestigious 19th-century publishing project, combining documentary rigor and decorative aesthetics to serve the knowledge of exotic plants.
This ancient print is a remarkable addition for botany and floral art enthusiasts. It lends itself ideally to serial hanging or in-depth visual study of collection flowers.
