This reproduction of a zoological plate presents three butterflies with distinct morphologies, including the Heterus philoctetes and Horsfield's hyada. The balanced composition highlights chromatic variations ranging from earthy brown to bright yellow, embellished with characteristic eyespot motifs. The precision of the naturalist drawing allows one to observe the finesse of the wing veins and the structure of the antennae.

The work is part of the collection of Charles d'Orbigny's Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle (1841-1849). This monumental corpus aimed to offer an exhaustive view of the living world, combining pedagogical clarity and descriptive rigor. The plate perfectly illustrates the academic style of 19th-century naturalist illustration, where the artist fades away before the biological reality of the subject.

This iconographic document is ideal for enhancing an office, a library, or any place dedicated to study and nature. It offers a precious visual testimony to the history of lepidoptera classification. This reproduction constitutes a choice piece for anyone interested in entomology and the aesthetics of ancient encyclopedic plates.
