This reproduction of a zoological illustration presents the pelagic Lupee, a crustacean shown in dorsal view. The drawing highlights the chromatic contrast between the green of the carapace and the red of the claws, while offering rigorous anatomical precision on the structure of the legs and body.
The plate comes from the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, directed by the naturalist Charles d'Orbigny. This work, an important milestone in 19th-century French scientific publishing, aimed to popularize biological knowledge through graphic representations of high taxonomic fidelity.
This naturalist work is a privileged medium for observing ancient marine fauna. It is perfectly suited for marine biology amateurs and collectors of heritage images wishing to integrate erudite iconography into their environment.
