This faithful reproduction presents an ornithological plate featuring the California Quail, identifiable by its elegant crest, and the Luzon Bleeding-heart, remarkable for its red breast patch. The birds are represented in a suggested plant environment, respecting the codes of classical naturalist illustration where the subject is enhanced by shades of brown, white, and red.

This artwork is extracted from the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle (1841-1849), a monumental publishing enterprise supervised by Charles d'Orbigny. The drawing reflects the period's desire to document each species with rigorous morphological exactitude, reflecting zoological knowledge of the Gallinaceous order in the 19th century.

Ideal for collectors of antique images, this plate combines scientific rigor and graphic balance. It lends itself perfectly to educational or decorative enhancement, allowing one to rediscover the diversity of avian fauna through the gaze of the great French naturalists.
