This reproduction of a work by Kōno Bairei features a white heron, captured in a posture of great elegance. The bird stands in shallow water, its immaculate plumage contrasting subtly with the gray and bluish tints of its environment. The animal's sharp yellow gaze, treated with great precision, becomes the focal point of this uncluttered composition.
A major illustrator of the Meiji era, Kōno Bairei (1844-1895) is famous for his bird and flower plates (kacho-ga). His works are distinguished by scientific rigor in the anatomical representation of subjects, combined with a purely Japanese artistic sensitivity. This heron bears witness to his mastery of the line and his ability to breathe life into his drawings.
Ideal for enthusiasts of ornithology and Japanese art, this print is a choice piece for a collection or wall decor. It evokes calm and patience, values cherished in Japanese aesthetics, and integrates perfectly into an office or living room.
