Naturalist plate Hyophorbe Indica

This reproduction of an antique botanical illustration depicts Hyophorbe Indica, a gracefully formed palm. The plate highlights the slender petioles dotted with fine brownish maculae and the glistening pale green leaflets. This precise morphological study allows the observation of the particularities of this species, notably the structure of its arching fronds and the ornamental aspect of its stem, carefully documented by P. De Pannemaker.

The work comes from Oswald de Kerchove de Denterghem's monograph entitled "Palmiers, histoire iconographique", published in 1878. This work constitutes a major documentary source for 19th-century horticulture. Plate XVI, reproduced here, illustrates the scientific interest of the time for the palms of the Mascarene Islands, combining the exactness of the botanical notice with the artistic quality of the engraving.

This reproduction offers a testimony of tropical plant diversity through historical iconography. It is aimed at collectors seeking naturalistic documents authentic in their manufacture. Its aesthetic and documentary value makes it a privileged choice for interior decoration inspired by the history of science and botany.
