Naturalist Plate of Desmids (Zierdinge) by Ernst Haeckel

This reproduction of a plate by Ernst Haeckel illustrates the geometric diversity of Desmids, microscopic freshwater algae. Integrated into the collection Kunstformen der Natur, the work presents a symmetrical composition where each microorganism is rendered with almost architectural precision. The soft hues of green and pink contrast with the purity of the white background, highlighting the unique cellular structures of these primitive organisms.

The work of Haeckel, a German biologist and illustrator, brought a world invisible to the naked eye to the general public through artistic lithographies. Between 1899 and 1904, his aesthetic approach to taxonomy deeply marked the spirit of the era. This chromatic and morphological study testifies to the author's intention to demonstrate that nature is the ultimate source of all harmonious artistic form.

This ancient illustration is an ideal choice for refined interior decoration, combining scientific curiosity and graphic elegance. It invites the observation of the minute details of aquatic flora and integrates perfectly into a collection of naturalistic prints. It is a pedagogical and decorative support that enhances the history of natural sciences and the art of lithography.
