Naturalist Plate of Peromedusae Jellyfish by Ernst Haeckel

This reproduction presents a detailed study of Peromedusae, more commonly known as pocket jellyfish. The plate features a complex composition where a central jellyfish dominates the space, surrounded by smaller specimens. The drawing highlights the symmetrical structure and transparency of these cnidarians, using shades of green, pink, and yellow to render the delicacy of the organic tissues and the complexity of their filaments.

The original work comes from the famous collection Kunstformen der Natur, published by biologist Ernst Haeckel between 1899 and 1904. This work illustrates Haeckel's desire to reconcile scientific rigor and visual aesthetics through chromatic study. These engravings exerted a major influence on Art Nouveau by revealing the intrinsic geometry of the living world through a precise line and a cleverly ordered layout.

This naturalist illustration is aimed at enthusiasts of the history of science and vintage graphics. As a decorative object, it brings a scholarly and contemplative dimension to an interior, allowing the observation of marine biological diversity from an artistic angle. Its iconographic richness makes it a prime piece for a collection of high-quality encyclopedic reproductions.
