Naturalist Plate of Siphonophores by Ernst Haeckel

This reproduction of a naturalist plate illustrates the complexity of siphonophores, colonial marine organisms with extraordinary structures. Taken from the work Kunstformen der Natur, the image displays a variety of tentacular forms and organic floats. The composition highlights the chromatic richness of these specimens, blending hues of red, orange, and blue.

Produced by biologist Ernst Haeckel at the turn of the 20th century, this work is part of an approach to scientific and artistic popularization. The original lithographs aimed to demonstrate the structural unity of nature through specimens often unknown to the general public. Haeckel's graphic style, characterized by rigorous symmetry, deeply inspired the decorative arts of his era.

This antique illustration is particularly suited for enthusiasts of marine zoology and scientific aesthetics. It lends itself perfectly to framing, offering a detailed glimpse into oceanic life. Its both didactic and aesthetic aspect makes it a precious testimony of 19th-century naturalist illustration.
