Naturalist plate of the Yellow-headed Parakeet by d'Orbigny

This reproduction of a naturalist illustration depicts a yellow-headed parakeet and a rainbow lorikeet, captured in a typical 19th-century graphic style. The artwork shows the birds perched on branches, highlighting the vibrancy of their green, yellow, and red plumage. The compositional work balances the documentary aspect with an elegant aesthetic characteristic of major ornithological plates.

The subject is taken from Charles d'Orbigny's iconographic corpus, specifically from his Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle. This major encyclopedic work aimed to synthesize the biological knowledge of the mid-century. The engraving testifies to an era when illustration was the primary vehicle for transmitting naturalist knowledge and discovering exotic species.

This ancient print, reproduced on a modern support, is perfectly suited for wall decoration inspired by wildlife and travel. It invites the contemplation of winged biodiversity through the prism of the history of science. Its chromatic richness makes it a decorative element that is both educational and aesthetic.
