Nocturnal Print of Kiyosu Bridge by Hasui Kawase

This reproduction presents a nocturnal view of Kiyosu Bridge, captured by print master Hasui Kawase. The illustration highlights the illuminated metal structure of the bridge, whose artificial lights cast vibrant orange reflections on the dark surface of the water. The chromatic palette, dominated by deep blacks and nocturnal blues, creates an urban atmosphere that is both calm and mysterious.

Kawase's work on this plate perfectly illustrates the shin-hanga style, which incorporates Western influences such as chiaroscuro into the traditional woodblock printing technique. The artist here explores the relationship between modern architecture and the aquatic element, using the contrast between the cold hues of night and the warmth of lighting to structure space. It is a precise chromatic study of nightlife in Japan.

This iconographic piece is ideal for those interested in the evolution of Japanese urban landscapes and the art of light. It can be collected for its historical interest or used to punctuate a space with a contemplative note. Its value lies in the faithful restitution of a nocturnal atmosphere typical of the interwar period, combining modernity and tradition.
