Ornithological Illustration: Wattled Jacana and Horned Screamer

This naturalist engraving reproduction presents two distinctive species: the Wattled Jacana and the Horned Screamer. Extracted from the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, this plate illustrates the specimens in an aquatic setting suggesting their habitat. The contrasts of black, white, and yellow emphasize the precision of the line work typical of mid-19th-century ornithological plates.

The original work, directed by the naturalist Charles d'Orbigny, is part of a vast scientific popularization enterprise. Through these representations, the engravers of the era sought to capture the morphological specificities of wading birds with great fidelity. This plate bears witness to the richness of biodiversity as documented by explorers and scientists of this major editorial period.

Intended for fans of ancient illustrations and natural sciences, this plate allows one to appreciate the complexity of the art of engraving. It constitutes an ideal documentary element for a thematic collection on birds or to enrich an interior with quality historical and scientific iconography.
