Ornithological Plate: Royal Flycatcher and Superb Lyrebird

This reproduction of an antique ornithological plate finely illustrates the Royal Flycatcher (Muscipetta regia) and the Superb Lyrebird (Menura lyra). Visual analysis reveals a careful composition highlighting the flycatcher's striking orange crest and the complex elegance of the lyrebird's tail. The dominant hues of orange, brown, and black are rendered with great fidelity, respecting the spirit of period naturalist plates.

The source document is the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle edited by Charles d'Orbigny between 1841 and 1849. This monumental 19th-century work bears witness to the golden age of scientific illustration, where copper or steel engraving allowed for unmatched precision. The author's intention was to offer a visual synthesis of the beauty and diversity of the avian world, combining encyclopedic knowledge with aesthetic sense.

It constitutes a fascinating historical testimony on ornithological classification and lends itself admirably to characterful wall decoration. Whether for an office, a library, or a living room, this reproduction invites the discovery of nature's curiosities through a historical scientific gaze.
