This reproduction presents a scientific plate dedicated to the skeleton of Ichthyosaurus communis, an emblematic fossil marine reptile. The illustration details the skeletal structure with remarkable anatomical precision, including specific views of the teeth, vertebrae, and sternum, characteristics of this prehistoric species.
The original document belongs to the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle by Charles d'Orbigny, published in the mid-19th century. During this period, paleontology was in full expansion, and such engravings played an essential role in popularizing fossil discoveries and understanding biological evolution.
Ideal for geology and paleontology enthusiasts, this naturalist plate invites contemplation of Earth's history. It fits perfectly into a collection of academic illustrations or into a modern cabinet of curiosities.
