Pampas Grass (Susuki), Japanese Woodblock Print by Kōno Bairei

This art reproduction features a Japanese woodblock print by artist Kōno Bairei, depicting stems of Pampas grass. The composition, sober and vertical, highlights the delicacy of the spikes unfurling against a light background. The illustrator captures the subtle movement of the plant with an economy of means, using shades of green and brown for a naturalist and soothing rendering.

Stemming from a collection of botanical illustrations, this work is characteristic of the style of Kōno Bairei (1844-1895), a Meiji-era ukiyo-e master. His work stands out for rigorous observation of nature, combining scientific precision with artistic sensibility. This print testifies to the era's interest in documenting the plant world through a purely Japanese aesthetic.

Ideal for lovers of Japanese art or botany, this illustration brings a touch of discreet elegance to an interior. It invites contemplation and can be integrated into a print collection or displayed alone to emphasize the finesse of its line. It is a piece that evokes serenity and the passage of seasons, a theme dear to Nipponese culture.
