This scientific reproduction features two species of turtles: the Pennsylvania mud turtle and the tracaxa. The plate details each specimen, including specific views of their plastron, offering a precise anatomical overview for identification and study.

Taken from the encyclopedic work "Erpétologie générale ou Histoire naturelle complète des reptiles" (1834-1840) by André-Marie-Constant Duméril, this illustration is part of a series dedicated to aquatic and terrestrial reptiles. It illustrates the zoological classification and descriptive rigor of 19th-century naturalist works.

This plate is a valuable acquisition for turtle enthusiasts, zoology students, and lovers of antique scientific illustrations. It can bring an educational and historical note to an interior, recalling the diversity of life forms on Earth.
