This reproduction of a 1932 print depicts a village by a canal under a blanket of snow. The composition relies on linear perspective where moored boats guide the eye toward the heart of the settlement. The chromatic study focuses on gradients of gray, white, and blue, emphasizing the climatic severity of the scene.

Hasui Kawase, a central figure of the Shin-hanga movement, captures here the atmosphere of Japan's rural landscapes. The work reflects a desire to document changing landscapes with modern artistic sensibility while retaining traditional engraving techniques. The rendering of the snow demonstrates great technical mastery.

This illustration is aimed at collectors of landscape views and Japanese iconographies. It allows one to appreciate the serenity of ancient winter scenes and constitutes a choice piece for interior decoration focused on graphic elegance and sobriety.
