This reproduction shows the entrance to the Temple of Amun in Gourna, at the site of Thebes. The composition features monumental columns framing a group of figures in traditional costumes. This genre scene amidst ancient ruins emphasizes the imposing scale of Egyptian architecture compared to the human figures.

The illustration comes from the Egypt and Nubia series by David Roberts, published following his 1838 expedition. Here, the author combines archaeological observation of the Theban remains with an ethnographic depiction of daily life at the time, capturing the interaction between the inhabitants and the millennial monuments.

This print is suitable for collectors of travel and archaeology scenes. It fits perfectly into a themed decoration dedicated to Egypt. Its documentary character allows one to discover the ornamental details of the columns and the richness of 19th-century oriental costumes.
