This reproduction features a diversity of copepods, small marine crustaceans, represented with exceptional zoological precision. The plate details the external and internal anatomy of the specimens through touches of orange, red, and green colors on a neutral background. It is a precious visual testimony to aquatic micro-fauna as studied in the 19th century.
The image comes from the encyclopedic work of Ernst Haeckel, a pioneer of ecology. Published in the early 1900s, these lithographs aimed to popularize science through imagery. The descriptive style emphasizes the symmetrical organization of these arthropods, illustrating the concept of "forms of nature" dear to the author in his quest for biological harmony.
Ideal for collectors of zoological plates and science enthusiasts, this illustration offers a didactic and aesthetic reading of the living world. It introduces a note of erudition and curiosity into a contemporary decor, while paying homage to one of history's most renowned scientific illustrators.
