This reproduction presents a technical plate illustrating the traditional canoes of the island of Guam, in the heart of the Mariana Islands. It clearly shows the models used by the government as well as those from Umata, complemented by precise details of oars and paddles, all structured with period French explanatory captions.

Originating from the expedition of the Astrolabe (1826–1829) led by Dumont d'Urville, this lithography illustrates the encounter between the rigor of the naturalist inventory and ethnographic observation. François Edmond Pâris's work highlights the diversity of Oceanian boatbuilding in relation to the archipelago's daily and official needs.

This antique illustration is perfectly suited for a maritime art collection or a historically styled interior. It allows for the rediscovery of the Pacific's nautical heritage through the eyes of early 19th-century French explorers, offering both aesthetic and documentary value.
