This reproduction illustrates the traditional outrigger canoes of Amboina, in the Moluccas archipelago. The scientific plate presents various technical views, notably structural sections and a representation of a watercraft dedicated to fishing, highlighting the diversity of local maritime uses.

The document comes from the publications of the voyage of the corvette Astrolabe (1826–1829) commanded by Dumont d'Urville. The lithographic work of the period faithfully restores the intention of the expedition's artists, who aimed to document technical solutions adapted to navigation in Indonesian waters at the beginning of the 19th century.

This iconographic piece is particularly suited to the decoration of an office or a library. It invites contemplation of a vanished naval heritage, offering a clear reading of the stabilization and propulsion devices of traditional Moluccan ships.
