This reproduction presents a naturalist print by Japanese artist Kōno Bairei. The illustration is centered on a praying mantis, camped on dry grasses. The precise stroke of the artist captures the characteristic posture of the insect, while the color palette, dominated by green and brown on a beige background, reinforces the realism of the scene.

Kōno Bairei (1844-1895) is a major figure in Meiji-era Japanese art, famous for his prints from the kacho-ga series (paintings of flowers and birds). His work is distinguished by an almost scientific observation of nature, combined with a refined composition and great graphic elegance, a legacy of the Japanese pictorial tradition.

This plate is aimed at entomology enthusiasts, lovers of Japanese art, and collectors of scientific illustrations. It constitutes a sober and refined decorative element, ideal for a cabinet of curiosities or an interior valuing naturalist drawing.
